new mexico state flagFGGAM just received this statement from Santa Fe Mayor David Coss who is a huge supporter   of same-sex marriage. This is his statement concerning Dona Ana County issuing same-sex marriage licenses. We also have statements from Attorney General Gary King, Gov. Martinez and New Mexico Watchman Jose Vasquez.

Santa Fe, NM – Statement from Mayor David Coss:

“History was made today in Doña Ana County. Congratulations to County Clerk Lynn Ellins and his staff, to the elected officials, and to all of the citizens of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. The laws of man have taken an important step forward, but it is the laws of humanity and the inalienable rights of justice and equality that truly triumph.

I’m proud of the work the City of Santa Fe has done to advance the basic civil right of marriage equality. This is not a Northern New Mexico or Southern New Mexico issue; it’s an issue for all New Mexicans and for all Americans. I am truly proud of New Mexico today; and of the steps taken towards treating all people equally under the law. This is what’s right and it is vital to our progress as a society. Most of all, to the couples getting married, I would like to say: congratulations and best wishes.”

Meanwhile New Mexico Attorney General Gary King told KOB TV:

His office does not have the authority over county clerks.

“We don’t intend at this point to take any action against the county clerk in Dona Ana County. We feel like our position that the law is unconstitutional presents a barrier to us from bringing action in that suit,” King said.

New Mexico Gov. Martinez has stated she is against same-sex marriage and that the issue should be put before  voters to decide.

New Mexico Watchman Jose Vasquez  issued this statement:

Today, Wednesday, August 21, Dona Ana County Clerk, Mr. Lynn Ellins, began issuing same-sex “marriage” licenses in New Mexico. The issuance is based on the private decision of the County Clerk himself.

Mr. Ellins states, “the state’s marriage statutes are gender neutral and do not expressly prohibit Dona Ana County from issuing marriage licenses to same-gender couples,” even though references to “man – woman” and “husband – wife” can be found in those documents.

Most recently the New Mexico Supreme Court refused to hear the same-sex “marriage” lawsuit brought before them and sent it back to the lower courts. That process would take too long according to Mr. Ellins.

In our recent past, the United States defined itself as religious, moral and a nation of laws.

No nation can survive once it has defined itself in terms of its sexuality.  The nation’s obsession with boys thinking they are girls and girls thinking they are boys stems from the same-sex “marriage” issue which has demonstrated it is only the tip of the iceberg.

Please pray that New Mexico’s public offiicials will return to the rule of law and our lost moral bearing and disregard for the constitution will end.

Yours in Christ,

Jose Vasquez
