There has been speculation by some that there is a link between Islamic terror organizations such as the Islamic State and the Mexican drug cartels.
Wednesday on Newsmax TV’s “America’s Forum,” Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) was asked if there is any current interaction between ISIS and Mexican drug cartels he said “yes” and added they are “talking to each other.”
The member of the House Judiciary Committee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security said, “In my opinion, yes there seems to be a talking to each other”
He added, “The drug cartels use the same operational plan as terrorist groups do … They kill their opponents, they behead their opponents, they brag about it and they have operational control of many portions of the southern border of the United States. Mexico doesn’t. The United States doesn’t. Otherwise they wouldn’t be crossing daily with their drugs. They’re as vicious as some of these other terrorist organizations. We need to recognize them that this is an organized international crime group. And we have to deal with them as such.”
While the Mexican drug cartels do not share the same beliefs as Islam, they are employing their tactics. In 2006, La Familia announced its presence by rolling the severed heads of five rivals onto the floor of a discotheque in Michoacán. Since then, beheadings have become a regular occurrence south of the border.
Beheading is not just a warning or a promise; it is a ritual expression of an ideology. That this ideology seeks to annihilate and tyrannize is clear from the jihadists’ beheading method: not a quick, clean blow, but a slow, agonizing sawing motion that keeps the victim alive to experience his own execution.
This opens them up to become sympathetic to the Islamic State, making it easier to embrace their ideology and beliefs. Islam is always at work to convert the world by reason or by force, usually by force.
