From Republic to Banana Republic

My country has my prayers!

America has gone from a government of laws to a semi political banana republic erasing over 200 years of American history and our form of government where governance is ‘Of The People, By The People, For The People’!

In one fail swoop, the rule of law has been replaced in Washington by “yes we can.” We have changed from a nation of ‘Can Do’ to ‘Hope we can’. Events witnessed Thursday in the senate by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s invoking the so called ‘nuclear option’ strips the minority party of its primary power to block nominations has become a stunning capstone to what has already been a steady erosion of a government of laws down to a sort of banana republic. And you may rest assured, while this is only limited so far, it will be expanded each time the party in the majority meets opposition by the party in minority. This expansion of the ‘nuclear option’ will occur regardless of who is in the majority. Keeping in mind our already obvious situation with a White House which is willing to outright lie to the American people in addition to issuing ‘administrative changes’ to existing laws, (which is a direct violation to our constitution), bypassing the congressional legislative process in its entirety.

We now live in a republic nation in which politicians do what ever they want without regard to tradition or the best interests of our country, much less our laws. The rule, in existence for over 200 years since the Senate was formed, as described by James Madison, to be “…the saucer of the hot cup of the House” has been overthrown. It is depressing to see people who put their party registration ahead of their responsibilities as leaders of the American people.

This is not a short term, temporary political matter or about the upsetting of short term political rules. The lid is off and the pot is already boiling over. It’s much bigger and should be upsetting to any American who puts their country ahead of their party as our founders did. Many claim this is only an effort to take current day concern off of the Affordable Care Act and its obvious failure but I fear it is far, far more serious than that.

For the record, the ‘nuclear option’ has been threatened before, by both parties, but we have achieved a milestone that threatens our very republic. Democrats were screaming like stuck pigs when the republicans threatened it a few years ago, however, calmer heads prevailed and concessions were made and it was not utilized. In this situation, the option was used without forewarning or discussion; not even a threat.

For some time we have seen a period where our government operating on this slippery slope has been evident. Consider in recent months, reports which are yet unproven but appear to look very serious, concerning the possible tampering with official unemployment numbers. When the unemployment numbers have been gathered in the past – – and not always without error – – the mere thought or appearance that they were not published in good faith or tainted by politics had never entered discussion. Until now, the process of picking the numbers has been sacred and the possibility that politics influenced official figures strikes at the very core of credibility in our government.

The most recent and jarring example is  ‘Obamacare’ when it’s good, Affordable Care Act when it isn’t. Here, the president has, despite the actual language of the law, assumed powers to exempt people, organizations or unions and to change the very meaning of the law itself totally bypassing the congressional legislative processes completely. Stunning, and even worse, scary! Indeed, the most egregious act was the Democratic and Republican leaders coming together to agree to ignore the language in the Affordable Care Act legislation and grant themselves and their staffs a special subsidy. It is sadly something very few people have bothered to speak out about.

This trend is not on the democratic party side alone. You could see this disturbing trend emerge in George W Bush’s presidency as well. However, it has greatly accelerated from there. As an example, Presidents Bush’s claim, on signing statements, that he had the right to ‘not enforce’ some of the things that were included in the law and believed he could designate parts of the law he had just signed as something he was not required to enforce. Barack Obama campaigned against this in 2008 but has himself become a professional at doing just that. President Bush claimed “presidential prerogative” that were never heretofore known in the areas of national security and in war powers. It was a Republican administration and a Republican Congress that passed the Medicare Part D provision by illegally holding the vote in the House open for four and a half hours while the White House threatened members of Congress into voting for it.

On Thursday, only three Democrats were willing to put the institution before this effort to achieve a short term political goal. This my friends, is the very definition of a slippery slope.

Is not preserving representative government an important goal?  We are in grave danger my fellow Americans!

Tuesday, we honored the 150th anniversary of government of the people, by the people and for the people when we remembered Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Now, just three days later, we are reminded just how grave the danger to that concept exists by members of a political class and their apologists in the mainstream media who will put political interests before the good of the United States of America, or it’s people.

What is astounding is the large degree that a matter of fact complacency about this institutional act of ‘coup de etat’. American self government is under an extremely heavy attack. Americans no doubt know it but do nothing about it and something must happen.

This is why an undeclared war now exists, or should exist, between the mainstream of America and the established political class of both parties. Our number one defense to retain our very freedom and our rights is our vote but I caution, we need to consider much closer, exactly what we’re voting for and it’s subsequent consequences! Right now, we’re not doing very well!!!

Without question, in my opinion, there will soon be open warfare between the great vast majority of the American people and this self perpetuating and self aggrandizing ruling class that is willing to put their ambitions, power, and political wellbeing ahead of a government of the American people.

AMERICA – BLESS GOD !!!
