The layoffs come amid low sales of the company’s personal computer components in the first quarter. The Chandler plant employs about 11,000 people.
A company memo to employees Tuesday said that the layoffs will involve “generally no more than a few hundred employees” at any site.
Last week, a leaked internal memo said cuts were coming, possibly across the board. An Intel spokesperson said they had not heard of any plans for layoffs at the Rio Rancho plant.
