My Journey With Cancer, Part 24 By David MaddoxDavid Maddox in August

Met this morning with our cancer doctor for a status update following a recent CAT Scan and to get the plan going forward. Perhaps the greatest miracle is the peace Janet Maddox and I have had coming into this meeting. We had come to a point where we wanted only to see what God had done or allowed – and then learn what was next. During the week God had taken me to Gethsemane and made it clear that the cancer is His so leave it there and like Jesus go forward to embrace what God has for us to do. That has really helped me keep my focus on what is before me and not the “wind and the waves”.

When we met the first time with our cancer doctor he said I had a run away train that we had to stop and kill – this in the face of a diagnosis that the cancer was already stage four with surgery not an option. Well – Praise the Lord – the CAT Scan confirmed that we are half the way home. The train has been stopped – than cancer has not spread. We have a fluid accumulation issue, but that should be manageable if we need to address it. The cancer has not yet been killed but the tumor markers indicate it is being significantly affected by the chemo – as does the Scan results. They did additional blood tests to see where they are after an additional two chemo infusions. We will get those results next week.

Bottom line – we continue with what we have been doing while watching the fluid accumulation. Radiation was considered but is not an option – the doctor believes it would do more harm that good. We are fine with that. One change is their agreement to give us more flexibility in when we schedule chemo which hopefully will mean greater ministry opportunities. What God has done since January is a miracle – and we are believing that He will finish what He has started and enable us to complete the work to which He has called us. Your prayers are being answered. Thank you for walking with us on this journey. Please join us in rejoicing and thanking the Lord.

About David Maddox – After a legal career in both Texas and Arizona that spanned over 40 years as a civil litigator, God called David to leave his law practice and work full time as Discipleship Director for Time to Revive.  That call is really the fruit of decades of prayer for revival and teaching God’s Word, writing discipleship materials and seeking to make disciples.  David married Janet Whitehead in 1976 and they minister together from their Phoenix home.  God has blessed them with four children and thus far seven grandchildren.
