Seanie T Bear Learns to Worship – Children’s Version of “Make a Joyful Noise”

Jean Bundas

At one point, it was my desire to write children’s books. I was thinking about a series based on the character “Seanie T Bear.” This was inspired by my true life experience shared earlier in my “Make a Joyful Noise” post. This ended up being the only story I’ve written so far. I thought I would share it with all of you. I hope your children enjoy it.

Seanie T. Bear was three years old. He was going to Nana’s house for the weekend. Seanie was happy, he loved to go and spend the night at Nana’s house. Seanie’s mom pulled up to the curb and out bounced Seanie. He knew that when he came in the door his Nana would pretend she did not know who was there. He thought it was funny when she did that. Seanie opened Nana’s big back door and announced, “I here Nana – Seanie is here!” Nana popped her head around the corner, looking towards the door, “Is someone here?” she questioned, “I don’t see anyone.” “It’s me Nana, ta-da, look…I here” he giggled. Nana looked down, “O my goodness, you scared me silly bear,” she said. “I’m so happy to see you. I’ve missed you so much!” Nana gave Seanie a big hug. She was very glad Seanie had come to spend the weekend with her and Papa.

Later that day, Nana took Seanie to the dollar store. He wanted to buy a flute. Seanie found the flute hanging on the wall in the toy aisle. “Are you sure that is what you want?” asked Nana. “Um hmm, that is what I like” Seanie told her, “that is it, yep” Nana and Seanie made there way to the check out line to pay for the little flute. When they got back in the car, Nana unwrapped the flute and handed it to Seanie. Seanie took a big breath and blew with all his might into the flute. Nothing happened. So, Seanie put the flute to his mouth and began to hum a tune into it. “Oh that sounds wonderful Seanie!” Nana told him. Seanie giggled; he liked to play his flute. He marched around the rest of the day humming into his flute.

The next day was Sunday. Seanie was going to go to church with Nana and Papa. Seanie asked Papa if he could bring his flute with him. Papa told him “Sure Seanie, you may bring your flute.” Seanie hummed on his flute all the way to church. “Oh that sounds wonderful Seanie” Papa told him.

When Seanie arrived at church, he hummed on his flute as he walked down the hall. “Oh that sounds wonderful Seanie” the people told him as he walked by, “Where did you learn to play like that?” Seanie smiled. Church started and Nana walked up front to sing with the worship leader. Seanie walked up front too. He wanted to play his flute for Jesus. He wanted to play his flute up on the stage with the big people. Nana told the piano lady that Seanie liked to hum into his flute and make “soft” music, it should be okay. The piano lady smiled and let Seanie come up onto the stage with them.

The lady on the piano started playing beautiful music. People clapped their hands and began to sing. Seanie started humming into his flute but it wasn’t as loud now with all the people singing and clapping. “How could Jesus hear him play with all this noise?” thought Seanie. He looked around at all the people and suddenly he had an idea! Seanie took a big deep breath and then he blew into his flute with all his might. “TOOT!” went the flute, “TOOT! TOOT!” Nana’s eyes opened real big and she looked quickly at the piano lady. “TOOT! TOOT!” called out Seanie on the flute. The piano lady kept right on playing and worshiping Jesus. Seanie kept right on playing too. “TOOT!” Nana looked down at Seanie, he was worshiping Jesus too. His eyes lit up brightly as he played his happy song. He played with all his might. Nana knew right then and there that Jesus was up in heaven thinking “Oh that sounds wonderful Seanie, where did you learn to worship like that!”
